Commander’s Log
September -
Lt. William Barret

Sept 2
Have established relations with the Formians NW of camp. They are well-behaved and not a threat.
Sept 4
Starting contruction of a larger fortification near the current camp. Gives the men something to do when not patrolling, and we need the space and comfort if there’s to be a permanent and growing garrison on this side of the island.
The girl, Agatha, visited again. Weird, but seems friendly enough. Lt. Frye says she’s not glamoured.
Sept 9
Supply ship arrived.
Sept 16
Convicts all killed in a goblin attack. Saw the smoke, and dispatched a force but arrived too late. The goblins wrote “tiny elves” on a wall – not sure why. They fled South; will pursue.
Sept 17
The gnolls South of us provided directions to the goblin village.
Went looking for goblins; found an orc war party instead. Killed them.
Found the goblin village, but no goblins, just hobgoblins, who seemed to be squatting there. Killed them. Maybe the goblin raid was motivated by their displacement by the hobgoblins? Continue to want to establish a larger zone of control around the camp.
Sept 18
Caught up with the displaced goblins further West, near a burned out ruin directly opposite the tar pits from here, and killed them all. Men happy to take vengeance.
Sept 20
Work resumed on the new fortifications. Will be good to have some more space. Supply ship left today; requested a cleric with the next ship.
Sept 22
Saw another goblin poking around the camp at night. Maybe we didn’t get them all after all. Doubled the guard.
Sept 25
Patrols NW didn’t find any sign of goblins. Need a tracker badly.
Sept 26
Patrols W didn’t find any sign of goblins.
Sept 27
Found the remaining goblins, living in a small primitive fort not far from the coast ~2mi N of camp. Fought a running engagement. They have spellcasters and some big mutant.
Cleric arrived from Winecrest – a freelancer named Hendrick. Ordered the ship back tomorrow morning, with a request for a tracker.
Sept 29
Victorious attack on the goblin fort. Lt. Frye’s illusions very effective. Scattered the goblins, but didn’t actually kill many of them. Burned their fort. They had wolves, presumably as mounts.
Sept 30
Patrols near the goblin fort did not find goblins.
Sept 31
Patrols near the goblin fort did not find goblins.
Oct 2
Tracker arrived with supply ship – a Sgt. Henrietta Jellial. Seems competent.
Oct 5
Continued patrols have not turned up any goblins. Sgt. Jellial says they haven’t been around. Perhaps we scared them off. I’m nonetheless postponing construction on the new fortification indefnitely. We are too vulnerable when all the men are outside the walls working; a raid by wolf-riders could catch everyone in the open and only semi-armed.
Oct 9
All still quiet; went looking for the mutineers. Sgt. Jellial found some signs.
Oct 10
Supply ship arrived.
Oct 11
Found the mutineers. Hanged the miserable curs at the ruin they were hiding in.
Oct 15
Slowly expanding zone of control. Difficult to do so safely, since we’re badly undermanned for the level of danger here. Need more funding if I’m going to escape this outpost-of-an-outpost. Sent most of the gear we’ve taken from humanoids back with the supply ship; hoping to fund some more men with it. Loss of income from the convict quarry has made the brass reluctant to pour more money into this camp.
Oct 18
Supply ship arrived.
Oct 27
Supply ship arrived.
Nov 5
Supply ship arrived.
Nov 7
A hippogriff with a rider overflew the camp today. Couldn’t make out the nature of the rider. Told the sentries to pay particular attention to the skies. Impressed the sailors, at least, which may increase our chances of reinforcements.
Nov 8
Almost the whole camp is ill. Ordered Hendrick to prep Cure Disease and Detect Poison. Cancelled all patrols. Have my only three healthy soldiers gathering wood to make bonfires to make us less vulnerable to night attacks while we recover.
Ordered supply ship to return to Winecrest; don’t need them sick too.
21:00 – Wood-cutting party attacked by goblins within sight of the fort. Sgt. Jellial and Pvt. Grossman killed. Found “tiny elves” carved in a tree after the attack. Same damned goblins. Can’t attack in our current state. Doubling the guard, partly so they can duck out to the latrine frequently without leaving holes.
Nov 9
All quiet last night & today. Surprised. Hendrick established illness was poison from the well. Had to be a Tiny Elves plot. A few of the men seem to be recovering on their own, but most are getting worse if anything. Hendrick can start curing people tomorrow. Still very vulnerable.
Nov 10
Still quiet. Hendrick’s magic a huge relief.
Nov 11
Nearly everyone getting better, but still weak. Still on alert. No more sign of the Tiny Elves tribe yet.
